Horizon Editor-in-Chiefs: Where Are They Now?

Erica DeMichiel (LHS ’13)

We checked in to see what former Horizon editors-in-chief over the past 10 years remember most about their time at LHS and also on what they are up to now. Here is what Erica DeMichiel (LHS ’13) had to say:

Q: What’s your favorite Horizon memory?

A: There really are so many fond memories. I remember one particularly late night I had with my layout staff that felt interminable. Ms. Gentile came by to give us encouragement and invited us to grab some leftover food in a meeting room down the hall to keep us going. And, of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention all the awards ceremonies we attended where our hard work was formally recognized.

Q: Deadlines. Reaction?

A: Getting used to tight newspaper deadlines ended up being really great preparation for college life. Though it was certainly stressful at times, especially on top of other schoolwork, deadlines were important lessons in discipline and time management. I also ended up being very involved with my college newspaper throughout my undergraduate years, so I was happy to have had some direct experience going into it.

Q: What college did you attend? What was your major?

A: I graduated from Wesleyan University last spring and majored in romance languages and literatures. I also completed a certificate in international relations.

Q: What are you doing now?

A: I’m currently working in Subscriber Relations at BrainPOP in New York City. So, I professionally advocate for Tim and Moby!

Q: What do you remember most about LHS?

A: All of the mornings I spent in math extra help. Maybe not the happiest memories, but I am forever grateful to all of my high school math teachers for their patience as I struggled to understand numbers.

Q: If you could go back and talk to your high school self, what would you say?

A: Work hard, but don’t stress too much. Things have a way of working themselves out in the end.
