As her senior year comes to an end, Samantha Marsiglia is making the most of every remaining game and season. A dedicated varsity basketball player who also competes on the varsity tennis and varsity softball teams, Marsiglia has distinguished herself as a well-rounded athlete whose commitment and competitiveness extend across every sport she plays. Heading into her final seasons, she hopes to help lead her teams while enjoying the experience of competing alongside teammates with whom she has grown over the years.
Marsiglia’s athletic journey began at a young age when she first discovered her love of sports through her dad. What started as an early interest eventually grew into a three-sport varsity career, something that required constant balance between practices, games, and academics. Her willingness to take on that challenge reflects both her work ethic and her passion for competition.
When asked about her favorite memories as a student athlete, Marsiglia said, “My favorite memory as a student athlete is having the opportunity to meet some of my best friends. Sports in high school have given me the opportunity to meet lifelong friends.” She also reflected on a specific moment that stands out to her, explaining, “Playing sports in high school has helped me communicate with my peers openly and honestly. It helped me become a better person by being able to communicate to my teammates.” Moments like these have shaped her experience as an athlete and contributed to the leadership role she now holds as a senior.
This year also marks a particularly meaningful milestone for Marsiglia, as it is the first time she and her sister, sophomore Ellie Marsiglia, are playing together on the same team. The opportunity has added a personal dimension to her final season, making each game even more memorable. She shared, “This year, I got to be on the same team as my sister. I’m so glad I got to spend [Sam’s] last season with her as my teammate. She is a great person to have on your team, always bringing such a positive attitude to the team. I was lucky to have the opportunity to see her not just as my sister but also as a teammate.”
Teammates describe Marsiglia as someone who leads through effort and consistency. Sophomore Ashley Franklin commented on her impact, saying, “Sam has a big impact on the basketball court for my entire team. Her energy, enthusiasm, and [positivity] bring so much joy to the court. She’s not only a teammate, but she also is a role model for all of us underclassmen, and many of us look up to her. Her positive energy encourages me to play better and work harder.” Her ability to stay composed and supportive, even in high-pressure situations, has helped create a positive and competitive environment for her teams.
Coaches have also noted Marsiglia’s growth over the years, emphasizing that her experience across multiple sports has strengthened her leadership and resilience. Whether on the court, the field, or back on the court again during tennis season, Marsiglia’s adaptability and determination continue to stand out.
Off the court, Marsiglia draws inspiration from her father, explaining, “I draw my inspiration from my dad. My dad is my role model. He has helped me stay true to myself and never let me give up on my passions.” These influences have shaped not only the way she approaches athletics, but also how she interacts with teammates and represents her teams in the broader school community.
Looking ahead, Marsiglia plans to expand her academic career after graduation: “I plan to major in finance due to my love for math.” Reflecting on her time as a high school athlete, she offered advice for younger players: “Never give up on the sport that you love, and don’t let it consume you. There is so much more to life than sports. Even if you feel discouraged, stay true to yourself and become the best version of yourself.” As she finishes her senior year, Marsiglia leaves behind a legacy defined by versatility, dedication, and a genuine love for the game—no matter which uniform she is wearing.
