Which is better, Netflix or Hulu? One simple question can spark a heated debate in which friendships are tested and loyalties are questioned. Netflix has been the pioneer of streaming movies and TV shows since its launch in 2007, and it seems like no other entertainment company will have the ability to knock it off its throne any time soon.

Netflix’s viewers are fiercely loyal and devote hours upon hours of their time to binge-watching their favorite content. In addition, Netflix owns the rights to countless favorites. Sophomore Madelyn Colonna says, “Hulu just can’t compare. It doesn’t have Stranger Things or Orange Is the New Black!” Netflix also offers a wide array of original content that has grasped the attention of its customers. It offers a number of specials starring popular comedians such as Louis C.K. and John Mulaney. In the case of comedy specials such as these, senior Koby Lazar says, “Netflix gives viewers the chance to almost ‘attend’ the theatre.” According to Diffen.com, Hulu has around only 1,650 shows and 2,500 movies, while Netflix has a collection of over 100,000 movies and TV shows.

However, TV and film fanatics should not be so quick to count Hulu out. The enterprise has slowly been growing its library to include popular shows such as Will & Grace and Scandal. Junior Benjamin Gagliardo also makes a valid point when he says, “Well, you can watch the complete series of Everybody Loves Raymond on Hulu, so.” Hulu has also been working on originals of its own, including a new show that has been gaining quite a following entitled, A Handmaid’s Tale. In addition, a monthly subscription is cheaper than that of Netflix.

While Hulu is making a valiant effort to replace Netflix as the top streaming platform, it still has a long way to go. Its impressive resume is still incomparable to the entertainment giant, Netflix.
