For six years, Security Guard Bob Millione has greeted LHS students on their way into school and kept the building safe from all dangers. He grew up in Valley Stream with his mom, dad, sister, brother, and both grandmothers; and as a kid, enjoyed playing stickball, touch football, tag, manhunt, and riding his bike. He later went to high school at Valley Stream South where he wrestled and played football.

“After high school” Millione said, “ I worked as a teller in a bank for two years. I started my career in the post office as a clerk, and I retired as a letter carrier 33 years later,” which is where he met his wife, Linda, whom he has been married to for 36 years. Upon getting married, they moved to New Hampshire and had their two sons. “After six years there, we moved back to Lynbrook because we missed our family. My wife grew up in Lynbrook, and like their mom, my sons went to Marion Street, South Middle, and Lynbrook High School.” Millione also used to volunteer as an announcer at his son’s varsity baseball games, and he has been a Cubmaster and assistant Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts.

This upcoming February is his sixth year anniversary at the high school, but he started as an after-school security guard at Marion Street one year prior. “The students are definitely my favorite part of the job” he said.

Millione said that his greatest influence is his grandmother, Ann. “She taught me at a young age to treat everyone with respect, which I still try to do to this day. My older brother, Michael, was also influential. I tried to emulate him by playing football and wrestling in high school, and we both worked for the post office.”

Millione enjoys spending time with his wife, sons, and pet turtle. On the weekends, he sometimes goes out east with his sons, and before the pandemic, he enjoyed seeing bands play in concert. “I am a ‘70s rock kind of person,” he said. However, now his weekends “have been very quiet hanging in the backyard with family,” he added. He enjoys going to outdoor concerts, fishing at Grant and Bay Park, playing darts, playing softball, and going camping.

Senior Ambiya Hussain said, “Each morning I go to school, I am greeted by Bob, our security guard. He always says ‘hi’ and ‘good morning,’ and I really appreciate it. He has a really tough job, and even when it’s cold, I always see him with a smile on his face.” Senior Victoria Medina added, “He always greets every student walking in, and you can tell he really cares about his job and the students.”
