This year, LHS implemented a new lunch and breakfast program for all students. The LHS cafeteria now works in conjunction with Aramark, a food service company, to provide all students with not only new but free menu items for breakfast and lunch. According to the New York State Department of Education website (nysed.gov), “Beginning in school year 2025-2026, New York State School Food Authorities (SFAs) participating in the federal school lunch and/or breakfast programs are required to provide reimbursable school meals at no cost to all students.” According to Aramark employee Kristen Lella, free and nutritious meals for students are important because they “ensure each student receives the proper components in their meal as well as making sure that no student misses a meal.” Lella added, “Not only that, but it is also important for their education.” The cafeteria is providing updated menu items, serving up lunch options like pasta primavera with chicken and teriyaki popcorn chicken. When sophomore Anabella Errico-Landau was asked about the diversity of the options for meals, she explained, “It always catches me by surprise whenever I hear the wide variety of lunch-menu options on the daily announcements. As someone who did not get school lunch last year, I will definitely be trying this year.”
