New Music Classes Coming to LHS

The Lynbrook Fine and Performing Arts Department has seen multiple improvements over the past few years, and next year will be no different. There will be two new music electives coming to LHS for the 2022-23 school year: Treble Choir and Music Theory.

The construction of the Alice Bresnihan Wing has allowed for new and improved chorus, band, and orchestra rooms, including smaller practice rooms for lessons and practice. Chorus teacher Timothy Waldvogel excitedly shared details about the upcoming year, helping to explain more about the new and current chorus programs, as seen below.

Q: What new chorus options are available next year?

A: A new treble choir, which is an auditioned group only for female voices, as well as music theory and composition, which isn’t a new class but will be much more exciting in the new wing.

Q: Are you excited about the new editions?

A: I am very excited; I think it is a great addition to our program to help it truly thrive.

Q: Are the new classes because of the new wing?

A: Partly, but also because of the demand for more music and singing groups in our school.

Q: Do you think any of the classes will be as popular as the general chorus class?

A: If I had to guess, I would think the treble choir would be closest in popularity to the general chorus class.

Q: Has the chorus experience changed because of the new wing?

A: Yes, we now have a home for the chorus students. It’s nice having our own music classroom to make new memories.

Chorus members have also expressed excitement about these newly introduced classes. “I am so thrilled that there are various new chorus options this year,” said junior Ava Schwam. “Being in chorus since it was possible, I can’t wait to try out for the treble choir and experience these new options.”

Concert Choir member and senior Lexi Capitali said she is sad to be leaving LHS at the end of the year. “I am obviously very upset that I can’t take these new music courses; however, I’m super excited for my friends who do get to take them,” Capitali said. “I’m excited to see what Mr. Waldvogel does with each program.”

In the upcoming school year, the new LHS wing will be put to full use as the Fine and Performing Arts Department continues to expand its offerings.
