“Sleep”

Sleep is one of the most addicting things,

more gripping than narcotics.

Even the most careful and responsible people can’t get enough;

a love for our unconscious state that we all share.

In this world, where we sell our time for money,

sleep gives the gift of hope.

During our rest, we have no concept of time;

we have no concept of what is real and what is fake.

A world full of dreams;

colors are vivid and bright;

the world displayed as we wish;

our hypnotic state where everything is in our control.

A daze embedded into our routine;

our slumber is peaceful and quiet;

a place where all problems disappear;

and nightmares, well, they aren’t physically real.

For a split second after we wake up,

everything is perfect;

everything is beautiful and serene.

In that moment, we don’t feel our tiredness.

But then we come to a realization:

we are awake, and things are defective,

the world isn’t perfect, like in our dreams.

Society is skewed, and people can be malicious.

We crave the evanescent high we get the moment we wake up,

our problems nonexistent.

We crave the composure and tranquility

that we acquire during the early hours of the morning…
