In his third year as a varsity lacrosse player, junior Christian Meszaros has been off to a fast start this season. The junior captain netted 15 goals and added four assists through the Owls’ first seven games. His highest scoring game came when it mattered most, in Lynbrook’s upset over four-seed Locust Valley. Leading the twelve-seed to victory, Meszaros scored three goals and added three assists, totaling six points in the game. Meszaros’ leadership on and off the field has been a huge reason for the Owls’ success this year, along with his ability to score goals from anywhere on the field.

Meszaros’ second hattrick of the season came against Wheatley/Carle Place as he added three goals for the Owls. Despite losing this game by a fairly large margin, he maintained a positive outlook; when asked to comment on this year’s team, he said, “We are just a tough, gritty team. That is how we pull out wins. We were made a 12 seed, so we go out there with nothing to lose.”

Meszaros’ strong attitude has propelled the Owls to their 3-4 record and in the middle of Conference I, which is much better than expected, considering they were placed last in the conference prior to the start of the season. Senior captain Jack Clausen said, “Meszaros plays hard every single play and has been great for us.”

With almost 20 total points through seven games, Meszaros has proven to be a force in Conference I and hopes to continue exceeding expectations throughout the rest of his junior season. With the playoffs on the horizon, Meszaros will play a big role in upcoming games.

Grace Bodian, a junior, has been an integral part of the Lady Owls’ offense for the past two years and looks to continue her efforts in her third season. The junior attackman recently scored Lynbrook’s game-winning goal in overtime in a competitive matchup against Oceanside; she also added an assist. Bodian’s ability to score in big games has proven critical for the Lady Owls’ this season, as she has scored five goals and two assists this season. Her goals have come against Carle Place, Seaford, and Bethpage. Aside from Bethpage, Bodian’s goals in all of these matchups contributed to the Lady Owls’ wins over tough opponents. Senior Mason Benvenuto said, “Bodian is a playmaker, and she is a big part of our offense.”

Bodian’s abilities on the field are complemented by her focus on being a team player. “The bond within our team has allowed us to play really well together and lead us to great wins,” she said. Bodian hopes to exceed her totals from her freshman year, in which she scored 11 goals and added eight assists for a total of 19 points. With the success the Lady Owls and Bodian have had, it seems likely that will happen.

As a powerhouse in Conference II, the Lady Owls ended the conference season with a 10-3 record and hope to continue their winning ways in the playoffs. Bodian’s performance will be essential for the team as they head into the toughest part of their schedule.
