LHS’s chapter of the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) celebrated its annual holiday party, hosted by advisor and art teacher Michael Kunz, after the Gifted Online art auction on Dec. 9.
The NAHS raised over $1,000 by auctioning snowy owl paintings to support Lynbrook families in need. Kunz explained, “This is our eighth year doing the gifted online art auction. I like how the money we raised stays in our school to help Lynbrook families who need help during the holidays. It’s called ‘gifted’ because when we first started, we originally painted on old, used gift cards.” Additionally, NAHS President Payton Stalter, a senior, added, “The best part of NAHS is being able to use our love for art to help our community. This year with our annual Gifted Auction, we were able to raise $1,162 to help Lynbrook families in need for the holidays.”
NAHS members and officers came to LHS from 6-8 PM on Dec. 9. Members ate pizza, desserts, painted ornaments, and sang karaoke–featuring both Kunz and art teacher Tom Sena. Ornaments painted were then sold and displayed at the Winter Gala: Festival of Arts, LHS’s annual winter concert. Students showcased their holiday spirit by competing in an ugly sweater competition. First place went to senior Nova Rozas. Rozas explained, “I felt overjoyed when I won the ugly sweater contest. I have a collection of over 20 ugly Christmas sweaters. This was my first time winning, which I was very happy about!”
