“All Hallows Eve, the one day of the year it’s socially acceptable to play dress up,” as Blair Waldorf from the series Gossip Girl expressed. Although a holiday typically celebrated by children, adults have proven that Halloween is not just for kids. Dressing up as an adult gives many a chance to explore their creativity and reminisce on memories from when they were young. Some people take dressing up to an extreme. Some celebrities, for example, spend months planning their costumes for that one special day. Among the many who celebrated, these few had jaw-dropping, unique costumes that outshone others.
Heidi Klum, also known as “the queen of Halloween”, leaves everyone stunned with her creative but unique costumes year after year. Some of these past costumes include a worm, E.T, Fiona from Shrek, and a peacock; she has definitely made her costumes hard to top. Klum is different from others in that she does not dress up to look good, but rather to express her creativity and take realism to a new level. This year, everyone was eager to see what she came up with for her “Heidi-Ween” Halloween party, which included a famous guest list. On TikTok, Klum posted teasers of her green face and prosthetics, leaving fans guessing what she had come up with this year. Walking on the red-carpet, Klum covered her face with her hands before her dramatic reveal. After moving her hands, she surprised everyone with her forked tongue and moving snake eyes, depicting Medusa. Klum’s husband, Tom Kaulitz, always participates in her costume. This year, Kaulitz was seemingly turned to stone with Heidi shooting a bow and arrow at him. Freshman Charli Celantano said, “Heidi’s costume scared me. I could not tell it was her when I saw pictures. Personally, I liked her worm costume the best, but this one was very impressive.” Klum and Kaulitz for sure won Halloween again this year!
With her “Short and Sweet” tour starting in September of 2024, Sabrina Carpenter coincidentally made her way to New York’s Madison Square Garden on Halloween night. Carpenter used this to her advantage by creating her own “Sabrina-ween” for the second consecutive year. Sophomore Emily Ciaccio explained, “I went to the ‘Short and Sweet’ tour last year, and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Sabrina is an amazing performer and has amazing music. I am jealous of whoever saw a Sabrina-ween show.” Last year, she was seen in costumes such as Sandy from the movie “Grease”, a Playboy bunny, and Tinkerbell. The grand opening of her show revealed her wearing a sparkly Wonder Woman costume that she performed the first third of her show in. Shocking the audience, Carpenter changed her costume and came out in a remake of the iconic pink cowboy outfit worn by actor Margot Robbie in the movie Barbie. Two costumes were not enough for her; she changed yet again into a Fred Flintstone dress and revealed it while doing her iconic arrest scene during the show when she handcuffs someone, with it being Drew Barrymore this year. Carpenter performed two of her “Sabrina-ween” shows on the same tour, both of them amassing a large following.
The young makeup guru James Charles is idolized by many for his extraordinary makeup skills. Charles has previously posted many Halloween makeup tutorial videos for clown, skeleton, Maleficent, and Bambi makeup. Walking down the carpet at Klum’s “Heidi-ween”, Charles was unrecognizable. He dressed up as the headless horseman, holding a fake, but realistic, representation of his head. This shocking creativity and attention to detail left paparazzi astounded. Charles admits he did the makeup and hair for the fake head he was holding, which made it look so real. “My favorite costume this year had to be James’s. It was so creative and so original. I loved how he did the makeup on the fake head; it made the costume his own and so different from anyone else who has done it before,” freshman Parker Gillis said.
Some celebrities spend months planning for their unique costumes. This Halloween’s celebrity creations blew last year’s top-notch costumes out of the water.
