From TikTok’s, music, and now classrooms, the “67” meme is everywhere. Even Dicitionary.com claimed “67” as the “Word of the Year” for 2025. Many adults, parents, and teachers are confused. What do these numbers mean?
The meme originated from the song “Doot Doot” by Skrilla. The song is about the basketball player LaMelo Ball who is 6’7”. The song mentions how he plays as if he were 6’ 2”. The signature gesture where one holds both hands with palms facing up and moves them alternately up and down goes along with the term. The expression can be used to describe something as “so-so”, but other than that there is no significant meaning.
English Department Chairperson Mary Kirby dressed as “67” for Halloween with her teaching partner, Regan Murphy. Kirby said, “The meme is kind of silly, but it certainly makes kids smile. It is an innocent nonsensical expression. Like all other fads, the joke will be over soon.” Junior Anthony Fasano said, “The joke is still funny. I like it because it is a joke everyone can understand and get behind. It becomes less funny when teachers who don’t understand it say it.”
Students, teachers, and parents have opinions on whether this meme is funny or dragged out. There are some people who enjoy this silly joke, while others are becoming increasingly irritated by it. Sophomore Samantha Ferrara said, “The meme was funny, but now it is too much. When parents and teachers began to say it, it became significantly less funny.” The “67” expression does appear to have the ability to make people of all ages laugh. As with most trends, this one will likley soon pass.
