As we enter the cold and snowy season, it is time to take those winter clothes out of the attic or maybe even buy some new ones. Here is what is trending for the chilly months ahead.
A popular look this year is puffer jackets. Senior Jacqueline Thayer expressed, “My favorite trend is the puffer jackets since they are super comfy, super cute, and go with everything.” Junior Alessia Bavaro agreed, adding, “I love my puffer jacket. It’s comfortable and keeps me warm.” Other outerwear trends include fur coats and suede jackets, which have been highlighted in “15 Winter Trends Vogue Editors Are Adding to Their Carts, ASAP” as posted on Vogue’s website (vogue.com): “There were a lot of luxurious fabrics on the fall/winter runways, from ultra shaggy knit outerwear to head-to-toe, and of course, shearling. Breaking out as a niche trend under the rich textures umbrella comes gorgeous shearling coats in bone and ivory.”
Another trend is layering, specifically with knitted sweaters. Junior Addison DiFiore commented, “I’ve seen so much layering this year. From [knitted] sweaters to vests to hoodies, this trend is super fun. I love the [knitted] sweater trend since the oversized look is so cute.” Vogue describes this layering trend as part of the “The Great Outdoors” style, which spotlights festive Fair Isle sweaters, corduroy-trimmed wax jackets, and preppy plaid flannel shirts.
Additionally, Uggs are trending again this winter. “I have a pair of Ugg slippers myself, and I love them because they are very versatile and cozy,” Thayer said.
When it comes to colors, burgundy is trending as featured by Vogue. Thayer explained, “Burgundy is such a vivid color that is perfect to wear and accessorize with.”
The boho aesthetic is also back, according to the article “14 Key Fall & Winter 2024 Fashion Trends You Need In Your Closet Now” as posted on the Glamour website (glamour.com): “The aesthetic’s third coming has been remixed for 2024, with new takes on crochet, fringe, and flowy fabrics that feel fresher than ever before.”
Lastly, statement fabrics such as velvet, sequin, and satin are trending. Instead of just wearing these fabrics for holidays or special occasions, Vogue suggests that these fabrics can be incorporated into an everyday winter wardrobe. Whether it is a satin shoe with denim or a feather-trimmed jacket to liven up a wool coat, these materials are perfect for daily wear.
This winter’s trends range from cozy items like knitted sweaters, Uggs, and puffer coats to bold fabrics and colors. Despite these trends, it is important to stay true to your personal style. Thayer emphasized, “I don’t feel people should always follow trends they see. They should be able to have their own opinions about clothing rather than be a follower.” DiFiore agreed, commenting, “I feel people should dress for their own vibe and style and not always what’s trending or in the media.”
