Prom 2021

Every year, students across the country look forward to one of the highlights of their high school career: prom. Traditionally, LHS celebrates prom with a walk down Atlantic Avenue, where students strut down the street in their gowns and tuxedos, hand in hand with a date or friend; members of the community look forward to the event and flock to see the students make their way past the stores and restaurants. Then, the reception takes place, and later, all students meet at Greis Park.

Luckily, the Class of 2021 will still get to experience prom, despite the fear that the event would be cancelled. It will take place on June 22 at The Sands Beach Club from 7 to 11 p.m. The outdoor location was chosen with the intention of maintaining Covid-19 guidelines, and to allow the Class of 2021 to all be together in one place, safely. Unfortunately, as of now, this year’s prom walk on Atlantic Ave. has been cancelled.

Prom tickets were sold on Thursday, June 10 and Friday, June 11 during lunch periods and immediately after school, costing $80 per person. Tickets must be shown in order to gain entry to the event.

Senior Greta Kiefer said, “I am so excited for this year’s prom, but it is sad to know that we will not be walking down Atlantic Avenue, like past grades have.” Senior and Slate Vice President Maeve Mooney said, “Originally, entering the end of the year, we all thought we wouldn’t be able to have prom together. It is a relief to know our whole grade can still get together and bring any date, even if they go to another school or are in another grade.”

“I am so grateful that we are able to have a prom that can be as close to a normal one, considering the circumstances,” said senior Olivia Dublin.
