Spring Sports Preview
Before spring sports commenced at LHS, captains and seniors of various teams were asked about the upcoming season.
Girls’ Lacrosse: Senior Olivia Vuotto
Q: What are you most excited for this season?
A: I’m most excited for being able to play again without restrictions and being able to do things as a team that we couldn’t do last year.
Q: How do you think last year’s shortened season will affect this season?
A: Last year’s shortened season will motivate us to take advantage of the full season this year. We did amazing last year and made it to the semi-finals. With a full season, I think we can get back there and even further.
Q: As a senior, what messages are you constantly relaying to your team?
A: As a senior, I’m constantly relaying that we need to work our hardest, but also that we need to have fun because of how our past two seasons were affected because of COVID.
Boys’ Lacrosse: Senior Christian Meszaros
Q: What are you most excited for this season?
A: I’m most excited for the team bonding and the brotherhood of this year. This is the best I’ve felt about a team ever, and I think we can do some damage in Conference C.
Q: How do you think last year’s shortened season will affect this season?
A: Last year’s season is way in the past. If anything, it made us want to win more because of how much an embarrassment it was. Last season helped us learn that we hate to lose, and it has made us want to win more than anything.
Q: As a senior, what messages are you constantly relaying to your team?
A: I’m always relaying that we have to stay disciplined, buy into the brotherhood, and be intense during practice.
Girls’ Golf: Junior Gabrielle Geller
Q: What are you most excited for this season?
A: I am most excited for the matches this season, along with the team-bonding at practices and games.
Q: How do you think that last year’s shortened season will affect this season?
A: I think that because of the shortened season last season, everyone on the team will be more excited to get back into the practices and environment.
Boys’ Golf: Senior Dylan Stalter
Q: What are you most excited for this season?
A: I’m definitely looking forward to getting to go out and play every day. We are fortunate enough to play on a great course, along with getting to improve every day while playing.
Q: How do you think last year’s shortened season will affect this season?
A: What I’ve noticed so far about the full season is the weather. Last year, we didn’t start until late April, so we never had to play in temperatures close to the 30s. It’s tough playing in the colder weather, but it’s something everyone has to adapt to and deal with.
Boys’ Tennis: Senior Ronan Mansfield
Q: What are you most excited for this season?
A: I’m most excited to just be back playing tennis after not playing for so long.
Q: How do you think last year’s shortened season will affect this season?
A: Personally, I feel a little out of practice after last year’s shortened season, but I think everybody is warming up pretty quickly.
Q: As a senior, what messages are you constantly relaying to your team?
A: I keep telling everyone to make sure that we don’t take it too seriously to the point where we don’t have fun anymore.
Girls’ and Boys’ Track: Senior Jack Carroll
Q: What are you most excited for this season?
A: The thing I’m most excited for is just being able to run again!
Q: How do you think last year’s shortened season will affect this season?
A: I don’t think much will change because we were lucky enough to have close to a full spring experience last year. A few extra weeks of practice should be good for us this year though.
Q: As a senior, what messages are you constantly relaying to your team?
A: I’m telling them that we just need everyone to come to practice, and come ready to work. We want to get better every day.
Girls’ and Boys’ Badminton: Senior Victoria Arts
Q: What are you most excited for this season?
A: I am excited to reunite with my teammates and meet all the new incoming players. I am also excited to be able to be coached by Mrs. Gordon, who retired from teaching last year.
Q: How do you think last year’s shortened season will affect this season?
A: I believe that the shortened season helped last year in still letting us practice instead of having no season at all. But, I think this season will be our best season yet!
Q: As a senior, what messages are you constantly relaying to your team?
A: The message that I relay to my teammates the most is that it isn’t about winning or losing; it’s about playing your best.
Girls’ Softball: Senior Madison Becker
Q: What are you most excited for this season?
A: This season I’m excited to play a full-length season for the first time in two years. We have a large team this year, and I can’t wait to get to practice and play in games with all the new players.
Q: How do you think last year’s shortened season will affect this season?
A: Last year’s shortened season presented its challenges, but I believe it prepared us to play even better this season.
Q: As a senior, what messages are you constantly relaying to your team?
A: As a senior, I try to relay to everyone that it’s important to have fun while we play, and if they work their hardest at practice, it will pay off in the games.
Boys’ Baseball: Senior Hunter Brenneis
Q: What are you most excited for this season?
A: I am very excited for the season. We have a very deep roster with tons of talent. I believe we can surprise a lot of teams.
Q: How do you think last year’s shortened season will affect this season?
A: Last year, our quick shortened season will make us better this year. Myself and other returning players gained much experience. This experience will give us more opportunities to win.
Q: As a senior, what messages are you constantly relaying to your team?
A: I am constantly reminding everyone to “practice how you play.” Take every rep in practice as if it is a game. We have been placed in a very difficult conference this year. I always remind everyone that we’re just as good as the rest of the teams, if not better.
What's up! I am a member of the Class of 2025, and when I'm not writing about sports for Horizon, you can catch me taking photos all around town. I hope...
