In the last issue of Grub ‘n’ Go, we took a look at Burger Shack, a burger restaurant held in high regard because of its diverse menu options, desserts, and overall deliciousness. In this edition, we move to pizza.
Pizza is a well-known, much-loved Italian dish, brought to the U.S. from Italy during the 19th century. It has influenced our way of eating in many ways; from high-end dining to grab-and-go by the slice, the love for pizza is universal. For students, it represents a quick, delicious lunch, especially for someone with only 40 minutes. That’s where The Gallery Four comes in.
Conveniently located at 93 Broadway, only a short distance from LHS, The Gallery Four is a blast from the past. It has that classic pizzeria look, with the old Pepsi logo on the side of the drink dispenser, red vinyl seats, a huge backlit menu board, and, most importantly, delicious old-fashioned pizza. Tommy, one of the owners of Gallery Four said, “Before here, there was a place in West Hempstead called The Gallery Three. Then we opened up here in Lynbrook. My father started 46 years ago; I was in my senior year of high school and stayed on to help my family. My son works here now, and so does my brother.”
If you are not a fan of classic pizza, no problem. The Gallery Four offers a variety of toppings to personalize your pizza such as pepperoni, meatball, anchovies, and onions. If triangular pizza is not fitting your mood either, The Gallery Four also offers square Sicilian-style pizza. Besides pizza, The Gallery Four offers a variety of other food options. They make delicious heroes, pasta dishes, calzones, and garlic knots. One customer, John, shared, “I love The Gallery Four. I’ve been coming here since I was a child. My father was a Lynbrook police officer, and he brought me here. I just love their food. And, I love the family that runs it. They’re a staple of this town.”
Sure, there are other pizzerias around town, but The Gallery Four has something unique. A staple that keeps customers coming back are their homemade chocolate chip cookies. Patrick explained, “I’m a big cookie guy. My regular order is a cookie, a regular slice, a small drink, and the pepperoni pinwheels. Sometimes, I order penne alla vodka and finish with a slice of rainbow cake.”
The Gallery Four is a fan-favorite spot. Whether it is for pizza or something else, it has become the perfect place for one to enjoy a meal. Its various menu options, old-school aesthetic, and chocolate chip cookies make it a worthwhile experience.
