Each May, as the school year comes to a close, the eldest students of the high school gather together for Senior Awards Night. This year’s Senior Awards Night was held on Thursday, May 29 and was the 55th annual event. At 7:00 PM, parents flooded into the gym bleachers while students trickled onto the gym floor and into rows of seats.
The night began with a speech from Principal Matthew Sarosy, introducing the reason for the night, and congratulating the class of 2025 for all of their hard work both in school and in the community. “In my comments at the beginning of the night, I try to put it out to the audience that [the stories] about these people who have come through Lynbrook and have gone on to do wonderful things and want to give back, and sadly some are memorials, but it keeps those names alive,” Sarosy explained. Then, each award presenter was introduced to come up to the podium, explaining the meaning of each award. Awards were presented by an array of individuals, including representatives from organizations, teachers and guidance counselors, and other important members from
the Lynbrook community.
There were over 120 students selected for an award, with some students winning multiple awards. More poignant than merely a placard or check, the announcement of each award began with a speech from the presenter.
