Dear Horizon Staff,
Congratulations on a job well done this year! From publishing four editions (soon to be six) to winning various accolades, by working together this year, we have achieved greatness. Although my time as an online editor-in-chief is coming to an end, I am forever grateful for the memories I have made with Horizon.
I will never forget our numerous field trips, early morning meetings, bagel breakfasts, city trips for award ceremonies, silly callouts to slacking editors, and all the laughs. I am also thankful for the friendships and opportunities that being a member of Horizon have provided me with. Horizon has also helped me grow my passion for writing; I’ve been able to express my thoughts, feelings, and viewpoints, and have been encouraged to be creative. Horizon has provided me with the skills to succeed in life and has made me well-versed in various areas of journalism.
One piece of advice I have for the new Horizon staff is not be afraid to take chances. Whether it is writing for a new section, trying out photography and art, or even applying for an editor position, put yourself out there. By trying new things, you will not only grow as a person, but also as a writer and editor.
Also, coming from an online editor-in-chief, please write for online. There are a multitude of events happening in current time that need to be covered. In this ever-changing world, covering news is essential.
I would also like to thank Mrs. Sanders for all her support throughout my journey. Whether it was helping with science research’s Regeneron Science Talent Search writing workshops, writing my college recommendation letter, or providing me advice throughout my high school career, thank you. I hope that you all appreciate Mrs. Sanders and everything that she has done for us and will continue to do.
So, although I will be graduating in just a few weeks, I will always hold my time with Horizon near and dear to my heart, even if it is all the way in Clemson, South Carolina. With that being said, remain ambitious, express yourself, and try new things; you never know what can happen.
Love,
Your ’24 -’25 Online Editor-in-Chief Katy Gottlieb
