Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Be…fore anyone says sequels are rarely as good as the original movie, they should watch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The juice is loose once again in this new film filled with comedy and horror. Director Tim Burton is the mastermind behind the perfect blend of old and new. With many returning characters, settings, and the same quirky afterlife, this film holds great potential to be just as good as the first.
Like the first movie, the sequel focuses on death and the afterlife in a comedic way. The story begins with grown-up Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) losing her father, leading her to reunite with her stepmother Delia (Catherine O’Hara). They return to the ghost house and the haunting begins, with Micheal Keaton reprising his role as the title character: Beetlejuice. This iconic ghost achieved the same classic comedy with all new jokes.
Creating a new story based on an old film is not the easiest. Great dialogue and storylines are key for sequels to hit big at the box office. The second Beetlejuice movie checks all the boxes, keeping the audience laughing the entire time. Every new movie needs a twist and this one delivers. Lydia now has a teenage daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega), who treats Lydia the same way Lydia used to treat her stepmother. Talk about karma! ***SPOILERS COMING UP: SKIP TO LAST PARAGRAPH IF YOU DO NOT WANT SPOILERS*** After Astrid finds herself going to the afterlife to unknowingly trade lives with ghost Jeremy Fraizer (Arthur Conti), Lydia must choose between Beetlejuice and her fame-grubbing fiance Rory (Justin Theroux).
