Seniors Cooper Schorr and Catherine Jennings were honored to be crowned this year’s Homecoming King and Queen. After the big day, the two sat down for an exclusive interview; get to know them below!
Q: What are some ways you have contributed to the Lynbrook Community?
Schorr: Organizing my own fundraisers to help out other people is something that I really love to do. Starting an annual pickleball tournament to support NSSA [Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism] was definitely one of my favorites.
Jennings: I feel like I’ve always been involved in our community. I especially love spending time with younger kids. Whether it’s Summer Playground or the clinics we do for sports, I always remember what that was like for me, and getting to have those experiences with the kids is so special. I’ve also always been a part of student government and found myself in a lot of clubs at school like Girl Up, Key Club, and Student Diversity Council.
Q: What was your favorite part of your LHS experience?
Schorr: My favorite part of my high school experience was definitely the people that I have met on the way. It’s a journey that has been a huge aspect of my life.
Jennings: My favorite experience so far was last year when my grade won Classnight. We all worked so hard and put everything we had into it. I love how the whole grade, despite our differences, comes together. Seeing our hard work pay off was a great moment.
Q: What was your first reaction to being crowned Homecoming King/Queen?
Schorr: I was pretty surprised about getting that honor. It’s something I can keep with me for the rest of my life.
Jennings: I was truly shocked, and I think everyone could tell because I really did not know how to act. I never expected to even be nominated, let alone win, so it was an unreal experience for me that I still can’t wrap my head around.
Q: What message would you like to give underclassmen as you experience your last Homecoming?
Schorr: I would tell the underclassman to make the best of every moment. As the end gets closer, you start to realize that high school goes by really fast, and it’s important to make every Homecoming and other special events count.
Jennings: My message would be to respect each other, work hard, and have so much fun because as cliché as it sounds, you will blink and be a senior and wish you had just a little more time with the people you grew up with.
