The annual club fair took place on Friday, September 20 in the cafeteria, featuring several new clubs and providing the opportunity to join already established ones. The cafeteria buzzed with excitement as students from all grades eagerly signed up for clubs and promoted the ones they were passionate about. With this being her second year attending the club fair, sophomore Olivia Ramirez commented, “The club fair was a great opportunity for students to join clubs and be surrounded by people with similar interests.”
This year’s fair introduced several new additions, including Book Club, Business Club, Dungeons and Dragons Club, Esports Club, Fiber Arts Club, Lions Club, Military Club, and Yoga Club. Each club enthusiastically welcomed prospective members and offered descriptions of their missions and activities.
Junior Julia Palay, co-founder of Lions Club with her brother, Jake Palay, explained, “Lions Club stands for leadership, experience, and opportunity, and it targets providing aid to the underprivileged. [We do] a lot of drives like collecting eyeglasses and other community service to give back to the world.” The club emphasizes five key pillars – vision, hunger, diabetes, cancer, and the environment – aiming to support communities and improve well-being around the world.
Some new clubs aim to offer relaxation to members. For instance, Book Club offers members the chance to discover new favorite books while engaging in meaningful discussions about literature. Yoga Club provides members the opportunity to unwind and de-stress, which can be essential given the busy lives of high school students. Fiber Arts Club involves knitting, crocheting, and other crafts. Whether members are seasoned crafters or just starting out, all creativity is welcomed.
Other clubs lean toward more competitive or skill-building activities. Dungeons and Dragons Club invites players of all experience levels and those curious to learn to come and play. Here, tales are told, and fantastical realms are explored. Esports Club includes playing video games in a highly organized competitive environment for video game enthusiasts. Members are able to work on team building, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Military Club is for anyone who wishes to learn about the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. It also provides volunteer services and information on enlisting in the military and applying for the ROTC.
Business Club caters to students interested in learning more about the business world. Members can learn about various business roles and responsibilities, as well as how to write resumes and cover letters.
At this year’s club fair many students were eager to join clubs that they are interested in and others took the opportunity to share their passions and promote their club. Assistant Principal Byran Garcia remarked, “The turnout is amazing, and on top of that, everyone I have spoken to is very personable and knowledgeable about whatever club they are presenting.” Even though the club fair may be over, it is never too late in the year to join a club.
