Key Club (KC) was given the opportunity to not only volunteer but be recognized at the 11th annual Rose Brucia Golf Outing on Monday, August 12 at the Stonebridge Country Club in Smithtown. After enjoying a barbeque lunch, students set out on golf carts for the day.
The event officially kicked off at one o’clock when the golfers got ready to tee off. Each student duo was responsible for a different area of the course. Some worked at specific holes handing out raffle tickets, while other students supervised and ensured that things were moving along. KC President Kate Santoli said, “During the day, I handed out raffle tickets alongside the other Key Clubbers. It was super fun and a great opportunity to interact and collaborate with this organization.” Furthermore, the winning ticket won a free foursome to play at Stonebridge Country Club.
Following the dinner, the awards ceremony took place. KC members raised $4,200 for the Rose Brucia Educational Foundation, a group that works to reduce child abductions by educating today’s youth. KC advisor Benedict Tieniber shared, “I am so proud of this group of students. Their endless effort is incredible to watch, and I look forward to more events with them in the future.”
The crowd gave the students a standing ovation, showing appreciation for their commitment to helping others and for donating their time to such a cause. The club was presented with a plaque and took a picture to celebrate. KC President Erick Diaz expressed, “To accept this award was truly an honor. This day was a very rewarding experience overall, and I look forward to it every year!”
Afterwards, KC members continued their service by helping out with the raffle. They handed out the prizes and gave the raffle tickets to the event organizers to read aloud. Finally, students enjoyed dessert from the ice cream bar; the cherry on top of a sweet night.
