Key Club hosted its first two spring car washes May 5 and May 19. Led by teacher and advisor Doctor Benedict Tieniber along with the newly elected 2024-2025 board, community members made their way over to the Kindergarten Center with their cars to the parking lot for spring cleanings. From Lamborghini Urus to Mini Coopers, cars from all over town counted on Key Club’s members to make their vehicles squeaky clean. As a result of the two car washes combined, the club surpassed its monetary goal and raised $1,900; this will support sending two students to International Convention (ICON) and the Embracing Your Past to Empower Your Future charity.
Key Club Vice President and junior Katy Gottlieb was ecstatic to share details about the car washes: “Key Club posted flyers on Instagram and designed many posters to advertise the event. It was lots of fun, and it was a nice, sunny day! We were happy to see some old members attend like Dani Zhanay and Cooper Cordes. It was so great to see new members take charge of the car wash.” Secretary and sophomore Cameron Kirby also enjoyed her experience at the car wash as a returning board member. “I was so happy and excited to be a part of the Key Club board again. To be reelected for a new year feels great. I can’t wait to continue working with everyone! Our car washes have had great outcomes and have been so much fun. We all take turns washing the cars and holding up signs near the road to bring in cars to wash and raise money,” Kirby explained. Sophomore and Editor Shameen Pirzada elaborated on her experience at the car wash as well as her experience as a newly elected board member: “I am excited to apply my skills as an editor and in working with other board members to produce new projects. I don’t have any specific activities in mind, but I will foster new ideas for the club. I think the car wash is a savvy and effective way to raise money. It is beneficial on both sides, and the money we raised can help so many people!”
Key Club’s final car wash of the year will take place on Sunday, June 9.
