Elon Musk is currently one of the richest men in the world. Musk has recently been in some hot water. While he has mentioned that he has been under much stress recently, he should be setting a positive example of leadership. However, Musk has not recently been behaving morally.

Musk has had his fair share of controversy. One controversy he has been recently involved in is when he decided to smoke marijuana during an interview. He was criticized for this because some of his company shareholders felt that they might not be sure if he is making important business decisions under the influence of substances. If he makes poor business decisions while under the influence, the consequences could be disastrous, and shareholders could take significant financial losses because of it.

Another action that Musk has been scrutinized for recently was when he threatened to rate journalists based on credibility. This proposed action against journalists could potentially alter their careers. He threatened to rate journalists based on credibility, which would censor the journalists because if they wrote anything wrong about him, he could give them a low credibility rating. This could, in turn, ruin their careers. If journalists portray Musk in a bad light, he will likely rank them lower. This shows that Musk will go to any length to make sure he can maintain power. This can pose a threat to society. 

While many may question whether it is moral to create a list based on journalists’ credibility, Lexi Capitali, a junior, shared her thoughts: “No matter who the person is, he/she should be able to question others’ credibility.” Another question that may arise regarding this topic is whether a list ranking journalists by their credibility could promote censorship. Marissa Cangemi, a sophomore, responded, “Yes, it can promote censorship. It may instill fear in journalists to speak out against him on his actions since he is ranking them. And, after they speak out, he may consider them less credible.” It is also questioned whether this ranking can end careers. Sophomore Ava Murello responded, “Yes, I think it could end careers since giving them a low credibility score can lower the number of readers a journalist gets. And, they can get fired for a lower reader count.” 

It is wrong to create a list ranking a journalists’ credibility because it can pose a threat to people’s careers and promote censorship at the same time. Anything that promotes silencing a person’s voice, especially if it is only one person, should be considered immoral. Also, journalists should express their views on a topic without fearing that they may lose their jobs because of it. People who are in a position where they  can be looked up to should set positive examples for others. To answer the question of whether Musk is behaving morally, I would respond with a simple “No.”
